Introducing OMB

We are translating decades of ground-breaking research from the University of Oxford into useable tools and products for application in industry and the environment worldwide. This new technology is based on novel biosensors that can detect metals, organics and biological toxins at ultra low concentrations. These can be deployed to monitor and manage the processing of industrial wastewater and environmental pollution, which combined with our expertise can provide new and unique solutions to waste remediation.

A global water crisis

Essential to life; the water crisis is ranked as one of the most important risks in terms of societal impact globally. Over 80% of wastewater around the world remains untreated, entering and contaminating drinking water sources and the environment. Pollution in rivers, lakes and oceans can lead to the subsequent devastation of ecosystems. The first step in addressing this issue is the detection of these contaminants, which combined with our mathematical models can offer valuable insights into sources, sinks and impacts of pollution and help advise on clean-up strategies.

Improve pollution detection

With increased public awareness and companies now taking more responsibility in effectively treating their waste, we’re entering a promising era for water. Numerous challenges exist in complying with strict regulations, but the unique ability of biosensors to detect pollution in complex mixtures is providing valuable information for responsible waste management in a number of industries and environmental bodies worldwide.

Our Technology

In light of the issues facing the water industry today, we are offering a range of products and services based around whole-cell biosensor technology; sensing cells able to detect toxicity, heavy metals, antibiotics and many more pollutants with greater sensitivity than ever before. In parallel we are developing a portable device which will enable our customers to use the biosensors on site and in remote locations, with data relayed wirelessly. Currently we offer lab-based services for numerous industries; detecting environmental and industrial pollution, identifying degradation pinch-points, toxicity at both a cellular and genetic level, as well as data analysis and consultation for contamination remediation strategies.
